Boost Efficiency with Automated Deburring and Shot Blasting for Excavator Bucket Parts

TEQRAM TRANSFORMS MARTIN'S EXCAVATOR BUCKET PRODUCTION

Before 2024, MARTIN in Ludesch, Austria, manually processed sheet metal parts for excavator buckets using chisels and angle grinders, a labour-intensive task. Since adopting Teqram's automated deburring and shot blasting robot in July 2024, production efficiency has soared, and employee working conditions have improved. Learn how Teqram EasyRobotics can benefit your business with this success story. (Martin GmbH, a subsidiary of Huppenkothen, produces approximately 20,000 excavator attachments each year, including quick-change systems, buckets, and hydraulic couplings. To meet this high demand, achieving maximum efficiency at every production stage is essential.)

MANUAL PROCESSING: HIGH PHYSICAL STRAIN

Sheet metal blanks, ranging from 8 to 70 mm thick, are cut using an advanced plasma and flame-cutting system. Previously, multiple workers manually removed slag and ground surfaces with angle grinders. This labor-intensive process was physically demanding, especially with parts weighing over 50 kg. Workers faced long hours handling vibrating tools while turning heavy components, resulting in significant physical strain.

The difficult task of removing slag with a chisel is carried out by the EasyGrinder.

ADDRESSING LABOUR SHORTAGES WITH AUTOMATION

According to Herwig Koch, Operations and Technology Manager at MARTIN, finding workers for heavy, monotonous tasks was already difficult, and frequent sick leave disrupted operations. However, with the Teqram robot, these challenges were overcome. The breakthrough came when MARTIN discovered Teqram’s innovative system at EuroBLECH 2022. 'A robot that operates without programming? That immediately caught our attention, given our wide range of products,' Koch recalls.

TEQRAM EASYGRINDER AND EASYSHOTBLAST: FLEXIBLE, PRECISE, AUTONOMOUS

Teqram's EasyGrinder provides unmatched flexibility. Operators simply place flame-cut parts on Euro pallets, select the desired processing quality, and the robot handles everything—slag removal, edge grinding, and creating a 2 mm radius. With auto-changing tools, it even turns and grips parts for seamless automation. After deburring and grinding, a Rösler rotary table system takes over for shot blasting. The Teqram robot arranges parts for optimal blasting and restacks them on pallets post-processing. No programming or manual intervention is needed, delivering ready-to-install components.

VISION TECHNOLOGY: NO PROGRAMMING NEEDED

Teqram stands out with its cutting-edge vision technology. Featuring 3D vision sensors and the EasyEye system, the robot detects workpiece contours without needing CAD drawings. It calculates weight and selects the correct gripper based on material and geometry. The EasyFlipper efficiently flips parts for thorough processing on both sides. Teqram's "no programming required" approach is ideal for companies like MARTIN, handling small to medium batch sizes with frequent workpiece changes, ensuring maximum productivity without the need for time-consuming programming.

ENHANCED EFFICIENCY AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Automating production with Teqram has allowed MARTIN to streamline its processes, delivering high-quality, reliable products while enhancing working conditions. The shift to automation has also made MARTIN a more appealing employer by reducing the physical strain on workers.

TEQRAM VISION GUIDED ROBOTICS

Teqram Vision-Guided Robotics offers modular robotic systems featuring advanced components such as 3D vision technology, smart grippers, and AI-driven controls. Solutions like EasyGrinder and EasyShotblast, used at MARTIN, are part of a comprehensive suite, including systems for loading, unloading, deburring, and leveling machines.
